About Larzfoto

Larzfoto is an amalgamation of various aspects of the photography world of Larry Watson.  The site encompasses themes Larry has pursued over the years in his time off between commercial photo jobs (see Larry’s Bio below).

Busts, is about the ancient world of Greece & Rome, memories and remembering. Hidden Dreams, illustrates a world not like our waking rational world. Inside, one finds the hope of saving souls, human love, and the beauty of the female form. Cemeteries fascinates with sepulchers, revealing how the living bury the dead and remember them.

Sunnier themes can be found in Flora & Fauna with the comedic French Cows, and the local scenics of the Navesink River and Sea Bright area in NJ.  Bridges contains romantic Navesink and Shrewsbury River oriented vistas, ending with some from NYC, Prague, and Paris. Train Views goes urban industrial, including some decaying factory exteriors, with lots of train tracks and train infrastructure.

Larry Watson Biography

Larry Watson was born and raised on the Jersey Shore, but his career in the visual arts has taken him all around the world.

After graduating from Emerson College in Boston in 1974, Larry did video and photography work with Lee Strasberg and Norman Lear in Los Angeles.  This exposure inspired him to pursue subsequent postgraduate work in photography at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.

Having established a solid foundation in photography, Larry then spent three years as First Assistant to fashion and celebrity photographer Herb Ritts on multiple assignments in Europe, India, Africa, and North America where the client list included Vogue, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, GQ, Bloomingdale’s, Gianfranco Ferre, and Spiegel’s.

His work on photography shoots with Herb Ritts caught the attention of the legendary Helmut Newton, and Larry soon became Mr. Newton’s

preferred assistant in California.   All this experience and travel led to a two year fellowship at The Cité des Arts in Paris where Larry completed projects for fashion designer Yoji Yamamoto and architect Frank Gehry

When Larry returned to California, he entered into  long-term relationships with HBO, Fox, Disney/ABC, and The WB to perform publicity photography for shows like “The X Files”, “The Larry Sanders Show” and “Six Feet Under”.  Look closely at the credits for these shows and for several movies and you will see, “Unit Photographer: Larry Watson”. His most recent unit work was on the feature film, Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, with director Sidney Lumet in New York.
